Seymour and I were friends in neighboring wards in Kaysville. I was on my mission serving in Williamsburg, Virginia and received a notice that I would be training a new missionary and to pick him up at the bus station. No name was given on the notice. Boy, was I ever surprised to have Seymour Brunson step off that bus and tell me he was my new companion! We had a great time together and he learned quickly. He went on to be a Zone Leader before going home. He was a talented and capable guy. After our missions we got together a few times for dinner but I soon got married and with work and school, very busy. One day Seymour dropped in to ZCMI where I worked and we visited. He had had surgery on his jaw to fix what he thought was a protruding jaw, and to even out his bite. He told me life was great and that he had a girlfriend. This was a couple of days before he passed away. I have always wished that I could have had more of an ability to realize he was in pain and needed some help. Speaking at his funeral was a daunting task but it was made easier by the pleasant experiences we shared and the love I felt for him. I look forward to seeing him again. Not right away however.

The last time I was at the cemetary, there was new grave stone for Symour.  I don't know who was responsible for this, but I was happy to see it.  It is a beautiful gravemarker.   I was always sad that his grave just seemed so lonely   I always thought that Seymour was a very nice guy and very handsome.

I'm happy to hear that too!  Thanks Mardell for following up.

Thanks Mardell for that information. I will have to go to the cemetery and take a picture of his gravestone so we can update his "In Memory" profile.

I just got off the phone with Kaysville City. They said there is a head stone for Seymour.

It can be found at E-4-51-3 if you want to find it. I think we are all relieved to know it is there. Seymour was a good friend.

I have visiited Seymour's grave a few times this week trying to get a good picture of his headstone.  Each time I tried to get a picture it didn't turn out well because of the shadows from the many trees by his gravesite. So this morning I got up early determined to get a good picture.  As you can see Seymour has a beautiful headstone! Each time I visited Seymour's grave I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the unseen angel who arranged for our friend Seymour to have such a beautiful headstone.  I love the picture of what looks like to me one of the stripling warriors in the Book of Mormon. I know this picture depicts the life he lived. I didn't know Seymour in school or in this life. But I know he is my friend.

Thank you, Gail, for posting that picture!  I'm so glad to see it.  Seymour grew up in my neighborhood and ward. He was a gentle soul and always so kind.  His 4 younger brothers went on to be successful musicians playing their trumpets.  I remember hearing the neighbors talk about them practicing all the time in their attic and would see bats fly out from the eaves.  They performed on Johnny Carson and many other shows and events.  You can see them on youtube as Brunson Brothers.

As I recall there was an assembly at DHS where Seymour (and someone else?) performed Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets. It was my introduction to Vivaldi’s music.  They nailed it.  Vivaldi is now my favorite classical composer – thank you Seymour!

To all, thanks for sharing about Seymour. He used to tell me he had bats in his attic but I thought he was kidding. To who ever put up the headstone, many thanks.
